SmarterMe® Reading Program The SmarterMe® Reading program began in September 2009 to help at-risk students in grades K-5 improve their reading skills through two-hour small group setting sessions on Saturdays. The small group instructional setting allows the tutors to give each student the individual attention he or she deserves and needs. This practice of one-on-one tutoring allows relationships between the child and tutor to form, letting the child know their tutor values them as an individual. 12 out of 20 of county schools are participating in our program. SmarterMe® Math Program SmarterMe® Math is a pilot program that started on Saturday, September 11, 2010. It is intended to provide remedial help to students who need assistance in reaching and maintaining grade level proficiency in mathematics. It is offered to students in grades 3-5. Lessons are structured to reinforce the skills students learned in school the previous week. Early results have been very positive, so SmarterMe® Math will become a part of our core SmarterMe® offerings. SmarterMe® Music Program SmarterMe® Music is a pilot program that started in February of 2011 and is already a huge success. The program was introduced to promote music education. Studies have shown that studying music helps children perform better in math, plus it’s just plain fun! The current instrument of study is the guitar. SmarterMe® Club SmarterMe® Club will provide after-school tutoring for math, reading, and writing to children in grades K - 5. It will be held on-site at the elementary schools. We are currently piloting the program at Whitlow Elementary for the 2011 - 2012 academic year. |
